We have a few people here at my job that sell tamales as a way to make some money on the side. I like to call them the Tamale Hustlers!!! Once a week, their families get together and make a ton of tamales to sell at everyone’s workplaces. You put your order in a few days ahead and on Friday, a sack of fresh tamales arrive at 1st break. They offer a decent selection of fillings too. I’ve had everything from chicken, pork and plain cheese. Lately, I’ve been in love with a flavor called RAJAS. The filling consists of a whole jalapeno, onions, and cheese. A pack of 4 runs $5, and to me it’s a steal. After eating these fresh homemade tamales, I can’t bring myself to order them at restaurants anymore, they just don’t compare.
Another thing I’ve been into lately is Agua Frescas. These have been my drink of choice this summer!
Agua frescas are tasty drinks that are usually made from fresh fruits, herbs, or grains…
Popular flavors include: melon, pineapple, orange, mango, tamarind, jamaica, and, horchata.
I’ve been hitting a lot of the smaller, more authentic Mexican restaurants, taco stands, and groceries around Indianapolis lately, and I’m always sure to try the agua frescas when available.
