First off, we can’t thank you enough for getting involved with the Live Twitter Q&A with Starkey last week! We all had a lot of fun getting to know one of the brains behind Seclusiasis and Slit Jockey. So much so, in fact, we actually broke Twitter! Again.
For the next few weeks we’ll be letting YOU ask our producers and DJ’s anything you want. You can ask them how they produced their latest track, which artists they dig right now or what their favorite sandwich filling is! It can be as deep or as silly as you like.
Each Q&A will last for one hour only and it’s your chance to get an insight into the inner workings of the Seclusiasis crew and how their minds work. Last week saw Starkey take the hot seat, answering questions on everything from his post rock supergroup to his production secrets and even his favorite Mexican dishes! If you missed it, where the hell were you??
@_bombe

@starkbotbeats

in todays oversaturated music market, what do you think are the best outlets for new producers or groups to get established?
@starkbotbeats

how did you start taking up DJing?
@starkbotbeats
started dj’ing in high school at Muhlenberg College’s radio fm radio station. played lots of noisey records, not much dance music.@DROKKR

@starkbotbeats
White Album, some Billie Holiday greatest hits record, Portishead Live Roseland NYC@bukudatdude
@Seclusiasis would u rather fight 1 horse sized duck or 100 duck sized horses?
@starkbotbeats
100 duck sized horses might be the easy answer, but that would be ruff, like those jawns in jurrasic park 2@jamesmbkeith
What was it like working at Red Bull compared to your usual studio setup?
@starkbotbeats
RedBull studio in London sounds great and is a nice environment for creativity, but i don’t think i could do a final mix there
….i’m too used to my setup and what my speakers sound like.@D3IT3R
when did you first take an interest in music production?
@starkbotbeats
in high school when i realized that majoring in playing an instrument wasn’t going to be for me in school@rarkelly
which do you fear more: snakes or spiders?
@starkbotbeats
probably snakes cuz u don’t see them as often. i kill spiders all the time.
@JamesMBKeith
@starkbotbeats @rarkelly I did see a pic of a spider killing a snake in Australia once. That country gives me the willies.
@starkbotbeats
they have crazy things in Australia… flying cockroaches, birds that peck at your head.@jenWEBerphone

@starkbotbeats
yes… there’s one that’s a work in progress.@SonkinDJ
why are cats so awesome and vital to a great studio?
@starkbotbeats
cats are the best cuz they get scared of random things, but never from my music.@c_manhattan
on mixdowns how much emphasis would you say you (or one needs to) place on EQ? i have heard varying responses
@starkbotbeats
it’s huge. EQ & Compression make records sound good. they’re the two key components to making a record sound professional.
@c_manhattan
that’s what i thought. w/ sound design, is it a part of writing the track for u-or done b4 as @illGatesMusic says 2
@starkbotbeats
@illGatesMusic is a smart dude.@JamesMBKeith
If you could start a supergroup what genre what you make and who would be in yr band?
